  • Kiplingesque.

  • I grabbed this for a baby shower, but ended up keeping it for myself. Inever realised how many everyday idioms and expressions actually come from these ancient fables!

  • I think they're very beautiful and I've never read anything like them.

About the Author

Alex Wolf Neuk

Alex Wolf Neuk is a doctor and storyteller with a mission - to reimagine Aesop’s fables with the wit, satire, and poetic brilliance that Jean de La Fontaine brought to them centuries ago.

Inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s disciplined storytelling, La Fontaine’s irony, and Vladimir Vysotsky’s command of rhyme and voice, Alex treats each fable as a literary craft rather than a retelling. The aim is simple: translations that read naturally while remaining faithful to the spirit of the originals.

Based in Sydney, Australia, Alex is also a devoted husband and proud father to six children. Alongside medicine and family life, his writing reflects a belief that stories which have endured for thousands of years still deserve to be told well.
